g'morning, lads!

i'm not sure what the 'expected' method is around these parts for sharing artwork, but consider this a test-run as i share a few of my favorite pieces from may, july and august of this year. might also share one of my shorter fics later today to test-run how that'll look in this space as well. i have a fic i wrote for the tmnt zine: leader in blue that i'll be allowed to post publicly on the 19th, and i'm very excited to finally get to share that on a wider scale!!

[edit, 10.10.25]: art can be found in the cuts! i've been told there're some clever ways to format/stack images neatly, but i've yet to look into those. will try to have those possibilities explored at least a little before i post several larger pieces at a time!

JULY 2025 ~ Who has Time for Tears?

AUGUST 2025 - Neglected Space

think that's it for now! curious to use this as further testing grounds for how journal tags work and other bits of organization, that sort of thing. hopefully after adding the cut, the images will remain formatted like i have them here. in the preview they keep defaulting to left justify. >->;;

godspeed, lads. hope your weekend's treated you well.

>> i'm not sure what the 'expected' method is around these parts for sharing artwork <,

It varies.

In your own blog, you can do what you want. Experiment and figure out what works for you.

The many Art communities vary widely in their rules. Those with few or no rules are pretty freeform and easy to post in. The longer and more detailed the rules, the more likely you'll flub something and those are the people most prone to scream at you for it.

Probably the most common rules regard cut position, either wanting a brief introduction, a template, or one image above the cut and everything else hidden. Reason being, long posts take longer to scroll through and lots of images take longer to load, so a short above-cut section makes it easier to scroll through multiple posts. Some also have rules about image size, etc.

>> i don't think there's a way to format/stack images neatly, otherwise i'd try more of a grid pattern lmao. <<

It can be done but requires code. You might ask about that on [community profile] dreamcodes or [community profile] newcomers.

The expressions on the characters look great.

>> curious to use this as further testing grounds for how journal tags work and other bits of organization <<

People use tags in different ways, so look at communities and individual journals for inspiration. Think about what you'll post the most and make subcategories for your biggest categories. Less common topics can be broader. Compare:

Nature: Plants
Nature: Plants: Trees

>> i'll need to mess around a bit more with the cut tool then, too; i fought with it a little bit this morning. <<

I've never gotten it to work normally. I use it in HTML mode. To do this:

Open the post creator.

Click the upper right tab that says "HTML." (You can check how things look by clicking "Rich Text.")

Put in your post content.

Figure out where you want the cut to go. Type (cut) there, but replace the parentheses with arrow brackets to activate the code.

Scroll down to the bottom, or wherever else you want the end of the cut. Type (/cut) there, again replacing the parentheses with arrow brackets.

Everything between those code lines should be hidden until someone clicks on it.

>> it makes me happy that it IS possible to do. huge relief, actually. i'll have to come back and clean this entry up once i figure it out. <<

I've seen rows and grids most often in the icon communities. People there usually know how to do it. You could watch to see who uses image formatting that you like, then ask them about it.

Also, if you're doing a lot of art, you might like [community profile] allbingo which has a new fest each month. We had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fest a couple years back; since you can play any card at any time, you could also raid that for prompts to make a card.

>> YES!!! i noticed this while i was making the entry this morning, actually! especially how colons can help organize topics on the tag page. <<

Also if you put ! in front of a word, that sorts it to the beginning. You'll see !admin, !schedule, and other functional tags that way.

>> it'll probably be a bit of trial and error on my end while i find a system that works efficiently and clean for me <<

You'll get the hang of it. I think there's an option for either cloud or alphabetical sorting, but I only use alphabetical so I'm not sure where that actual tool is.

>> thank you SO MUCH again, dude!! i seriously appreciate you taking the time to share all this with me, that was very kind of you. <<

*bow, flourish* Happy to be of service. I want people to find things they like and learn how to use the site, in hopes they'll stick around. I also encourage people to post full content here, instead of just links offsite. It sucks to have recs from a dozen other services that not everyone can see. :/

>> i hope you've had a wonderful rest of your sunday and the week ahead brings a nice thing or three. <<

Today's project was breaking down a fairy garden lantern so I can later turn it into an air plant terrarium.

We also have a shopping trip planned soon, so that'll be fun. Might as well get something done, because it's too frigging hot out for gardening. In mid-September. >_<

>> absolutely going to have to check that out.<<

Yay!

>>i just checked this out! that's such a cool lantern.<<

Thank you.

>> hope it's cooled down a bit in your area. <<

Nope, still 85F in October. Sooo not normal.

>> we've still been fighting off the heat over here, and as much as i wish i could say that goes away after a certain point... we still sometimes have 90F days in december. so. what do i know. <<

O_O I definitely could not deal with that.
